An Arizona native, Calvin joined the team at Student Veterans of America National Headquarters in July 2016 as a Chapter Liaison in SVA's Outreach Department. Calvin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2008 and served as an Infantryman, deploying twice to support Operation Enduring Freedom and operations in US, European, African and Central Commands' areas of responsibility. Calvin transitioned out of the Marines in 2012 where he enrolled at Scottsdale Community College, earning his Associates of Arts before transferring to the University of Arizona in 2014.
While working towards attaining a dual degree in Political Science in International Relations and Philosophy in Ethics, Calvin became involved with the Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS) Center at the University of Arizona as an Education and Resource Specialist for Veterans in Higher Education. Calvin was elected as the President of the University of Arizona Student Veterans Association (UASVA) and gained experience as an SVA chapter leader through advocating and mentoring student veterans in relation to programming, academic, networking, and veteran research based initiatives. Calvin aspires to further develop in helping mentor, build, and sustain successful student veteran organizations and networks while working at Student Veterans of America.
