Frances Salazar is originally from New Mexico, but spent part of her childhood in various states while her father served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman in the Navy. Frances enlisted served in the Navy for 13 years. While deployed for three years, Frances served as a translator for the medical teams on humanitarian missions solidifying her passion to serve beyond active duty.
After her discharge from the Navy, Frances decided to attend a smaller college with a support system to assist her through her transitional period from Sailor to civilian. She discovered the Student Veterans of America (SVA) and later became the Chapter President. Currently, she is the campus Vice President of the Student Government Association (SGA) and completed an internship at the Maryland General Assembly. These experiences allowed her to connect with the military community and advocate on their behalf at state and local levels.
Frances has been accepted as a Mission Continues Fellow. Her internship affords her the opportunity to learn from her fellow veterans at the National Chapter of the Student Veterans of America. Her career goal is to complete her Associate of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies, transfer to a four-year university, and eventually graduate from law school. As attorney, Frances hopes to represent those who need an advocate just as she has had advocates speak on her behalf.
