Chapter Voices: University of Colorado-Boulder Law
The Military Law Society (MLS) at the University of Colorado-Boulder had been inactive for some time when several veterans and veteran advocates decided to reinvigorate the group in the Spring of 2016. MLS started by drafting an inclusive mission statement which fostered growth for both the organization and the veteran community at large. In the following months, Chapter President, Karthik Venkatraj along with other chapter leadership created the Veterans Honor Legal Fellowship, an externship which empowers student veterans studying law through supplementary educational opportunities, a 100-hour commitment to public service and connections to both local and national law societies.
MLS is committed to educating student veterans and their community on issues concerning national security and health by inviting speaker from DC-based think tanks and strengthening their partnership with the Health Law Society through joint events. Following their success in Spring 2016, MLS hopes to grow both their membership and the Veteran Honor Legal Fellowship in the coming Fall 2016 semester. Chapter President Karthik Ventkatraj says of becoming an SVA Chapter, “we are excited to be a part of SVA and to be a part of an amazing network of fellow veterans. We see it as a culmination point for all the hard work we have done this semester to build and establish our organization. Above all, we see it as an integral opportunity to provide perpetuity and a firm foundation for our organization.”
