Meet Maria Rincon, a U.S. Army veteran who is pursuing a degree in Bilingual Education at both Texas State Technical College (TSTC) and Texas A&M Kingsville. Not only is she a single mother and full-time student, she is also President of the Student Veterans Alliance Club at TSTC. Maria admits that she was afraid when she first arrived at her school’s Veterans Center, but when she realized the support she had from her fellow veterans and advisors, that fear soon dissipated.
Meet student veteran Abby Kinch, a United States Air Force Veteran who is currently pursuing her PhD in Public Administration and Policy at Florida State University. She also currently works as the Academic Program Specialist at FSU. For Kinch, the best part about being a student veteran is the people she’s met and the opportunities to which she’s been exposed. “I get to interact daily with student leaders on my campus and other campuses around the nation. These people are impacting not only my life, but the lives of student veterans and non-veteran students every day, and I am very privileged to know them now.”
Meet student veteran Lance MacNiven, who served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Over the course of his service, Lance realized that he wanted to go back to school, so he began taking college courses on base while he was stationed on the USS Port Royal out of Pearl Harbor, HI. After separating from the Navy in 2010, Lance went on to complete his Associates Degree in Finance at Hawaii Pacific University.
Jeff Popovich, CIO American Public Transportation Association
Meet Jeff Popovich, a former student veteran who served for eight years in the Navy. Popovich holds a BS in Management from Park University and a MS in Management from Florida Institute of Technology and currently serves as the Chief Information Officer for the American Public Transportation Association, based in Washington, DC. Popovich is also a leading advocate for LGBT inclusiveness within the public transit industry.
