Student Council

The Purpose of the SVA Student Council shall be to provide non-binding advice, recommendations, and guidance to the Executive Director of Student Veterans of America. Advice, recommendations, and guidance may pertain to strategic direction, technology, standards, infrastructure, administration, legislative policy or other matters deemed to be relevant to the overall mission of SVA in an advisory capacity only. Click here to view the Student Council Charter in .pdf form. Below are the current members of SVA's Student Council, who were nominated and confirmed by majority vote at the 2013 National Conference. Everyone is listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Adam Beatty, Member

Beatty Official Photo Adam Beatty served in the United States Marine Corps from 2006 to 2010. He was trained as an infantryman and assigned to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Twenty Nine Palms, California before being deployed to Iraq in 2007 and 2009. Adam separated from the Marine Corps in the summer of 2010 and enrolled at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts where he’s currently studying Finance and History.

Chester Curtis, Member

Curtis Official Photo Chester Curtis served in the US Army for 4 years as a Combat Engineer. He served in Afghanistan for 12 months between 2009-2010 with the 562 Engineer Company, 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division of Joint Base Lewis-McChord in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Chester separated from the Army in May of 2011 and enrolled at Edmonds Community College where he currently studies Energy Management and Project Management.

Kiersten Downs, Member

Downs Official PhotoKiersten served on active duty for the United States Air Force from 2001 to 2005 and served in the New York Air National Guard from 2005 to 2008. She was deployed three times in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. After serving in the Air Force, Kiersten attained her B.A. in Political Science from Binghamton University and a M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University. Ashley Parker-Roman, Member

Parker-Roman Official Photo Ashley Parker-Roman served in the United States Navy from 2005 to 2009 on board the USS Bataan LHD 5 and completed two deployments. James Yauger, Member

Yauger Official PhotoJames Yauger served in the US Army for 3 years as an indirect fire infantryman. He deployed to Iraq for 14 months in 2004 with the 1st Cavalry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
