The Leadership Summit Series has been one of our premier programs since 2012. This training was held annually in locations across the nation, but demand frequently exceeded capacity. In an effort to accommodate all interested students, SVA is bringing the leadership training online!

The 2017 Chapter Leadership Academy will consist of a series of web-based interactive sessions teaching key components necessary for chapter leadership success. These events are designed to empower and inspire the SVA chapter base while providing the tools and resources for all our chapters to grow and thrive. Student veterans will learn how to design, develop, and deliver an effective student veteran organization.

The valuable material presented in the Leadership Summits remains in the Chapter Leadership Academy. Student veterans will learn the critical components of a business plan, such as drafting a mission statement, articulating goals and objectives, building a budget, and planning for long-term sustainability.

We encourage multiple members of a chapter's leadership team to attend the webinars to promote collaboration and shared planning in the strategic vision for their chapter during the upcoming year and beyond. The Chapter Leadership Academy will motivate students to think broadly about their chapter and explore campus-level concepts that can ease a veteran's transition from the military to higher education and then to the workforce.

Through this web-based content and the sharing of opportunities, challenges, successes, and best practices, we aim to have our vast network of student veterans fully equipped to bring meaningful and sustainable change to their campuses and local communities.

"The time we spent learning about and creating our specific business plan for UAFS was the starting point of a very successful year. We have tripled our membership and had a much higher success of retention."

2017 Leadership Institute
More information coming soon!

The Leadership Institute will remain an in-person event, but will no longer focus on chapter management. This prestigious competitive program will bring a select group of emerging leaders together for intensive in-residence leadership training. Many of the skills can be applied to chapter management, however the focus will be on individual professional development. SVA will continue to cover the cost of travel, lodging, and meals for all attendees.

"I walked away with a strong, new mission for my Student Veterans Association and the logistics and planning to back up that mission. Attending this training event gave me the skills and confidence to begin transforming my Student Veterans Association. We've seen membership almost double since the beginning of this year."
