Student Veterans of America and Raytheon have partnered to provide two (2) $10,000 scholarships to student veterans demonstrating a commitment to and passion for their chosen field of study, as well as demonstrated leadership and engagement within their community. The Raytheon Patriot Scholarship is offered exclusively to U.S. Army veterans, and is named after Raytheon's Patriot Air and Missile Defense System.

The 2018 Raytheon Patriot Scholarship application will remain open until April 10th, 2018 at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time. Student veterans must complete an online application, answer three essay questions, attach the required documents, and have one letter of reference be submitted prior to the deadline to be considered.

Eligibility

All successful candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Army veteran
  • Be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of undergraduate study, or be enrolled in a graduate program for the current academic year
  • Be attending full-time at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and passion for their chosen field of study
  • Demonstrate leadership and engagement in their community
  • Be a current student veteran (includes members of the National Guard or Reserve), as demonstrated by a DD 214 and current transcript
  • Have received an honorable discharge; must be a veteran in good standing

Essay

Please provide answers to the following three essay questions in one document using a maximum of 300-500 words per essay. Your document must be submitted as a PDF, and include your name and clearly specify each answer by number.

  1. What do you hope to accomplish with your degree?  In your answer, please describe how your experiences have influenced the goals you have for yourself.
  2. Briefly describe what it means to you to have served in the U.S Army. Provide information if your assignment included service as part of a Patriot unit.
  3. Please provide an example of how you have demonstrated leadership. Explain how you were influential and what you were trying to achieve. This does not have to be demonstrated through formal or traditional leadership roles.  Think broadly and examine the many ways you are having an effect on the members of your technical community, your chapter, your university, or your broader community.

Letter of Reference

You must arrange for one letter of reference to be submitted via the link provided below. All letters must be sent by the author, signed by the author, and be on official letterhead. Letters can also be mailed to:

Charles Deibel

Charles is currently pursuing a joint Juris Doctor and Masters of International Affairs degrees at Pennsylvania State University. He plans to graduate in May 2020 and hopes to pursue a career in international affairs or national security.

Jennifer Hosley

Jennifer is a student at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith pursuing a degree in Middle Childhood Education. She is president of the Student Veterans chapter at the University.

April Krowel 

April Krowel recently graduated from Ball State University with a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. She is now pursuing a two-year postdoctoral fellowship and eventually plans to return to the service as a military psychologist in the Army National Guard.

Audrey Stewart

Audrey received her MBA from Columbia University in May 2017 and travels all around the country working as a consultant for a leading professional services firm.

 

2015 Raytheon Patriot Scholars:

Henry Scott

Henry is currently deployed in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel in Afghanistan as an IT Manager in the US Army. He received his degree from Fayetteville State University and commissioned from the Reserves Officers Training Course.

 

America Luna

America Luna is a new mom to an eight month old daughter and director of the Military Connection Center at Old Dominion University, where she received her Master’s in Higher Education.
