Sherry Shi is a software developer at IBM. She works on the IBM Spectrum Protect product at the Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA. Sherry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Stony Brook University.
Sherry is a former Sergeant in the U.S. Army, where she served for four years as an intelligence analyst, IT systems administrator, and systems technician. She was stationed in Germany and completed a tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sherry’s work experience also includes a web development internship at the White House under the Obama administration and a softwar engineering internship at FactSet Research Systems. She has received the Google-SVA scholarship, Facebook Grace Hopper scholarship, and was chosen as one of 10 women from around the country to attend the Piazza Silicon Valley Tour.
Sherry was SVA’s Student Veteran of the Year in 2015. At the National Conference, she was humbled and honored to speak on stage with the Vice President of the United States Joe Biden and Second Lady Jill Biden.
Sherry is passionate about women’s issues in both the military and tech worlds. She was President of Stony Brook’s SVA chapter and Vice President of their Women in Computer Science club. She volunteers for Girls Who Code, where she mentors high school girls in a coding immersion program every summer.
