Heather Donnithorne joined Student Veterans of America in February 2018 to serve as Special Assistant to the Executive Team. In this role she leverages her years of leadership management experience to create efficiencies within the organization.
Prior to joining SVA, Ms. Donnithorne worked at Blue Star Families for more than three years as the organization’s Manager of Special Projects for the Executive Team. During her tenure she delivered project management, strategic planning, and implementation support for many key organizational initiatives in step with the CEO and COO.
Ms. Donnithorne’s career in leadership management also includes serving 10 years in Administration and Auxiliary Services with Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. There, she also held volunteer roles such as Civic Honors and Leadership Student Mentor, and Veterans Department and Club Advisor.
Ms. Donnithorne has 15-plus years of volunteer coordination experience in the military and higher education communities, including with Habitat for Humanity, Hiring our Heroes, the Special Olympics, as an Active Heroes publicity volunteer for Walk Across America, and as a USO volunteer at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
At Peterson Air Force Base, she served as Senior Key Spouse Mentor Program lead for 21 MSG, on the Mission Support Group Commanders Roundtable, as a Command Spouse Training Panel Speaker, an Emergency Family Assistance Center staging and volunteer coordinator, and the Planning Committee lead with the Airmen and Family Readiness Center for numerous military family events.
Ms. Donnithorne earned her B.A. in Psychology and a dual-B.A. in Art History and History from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She has also earned an Onward to Opportunity Project Management Certificate through IVMF at Syracuse University. Ms. Donnithorne is a proud spouse of a retired U.S. Air Force officer, and lives with her husband and daughter in Alexandria, Virginia.
