New position at Mid Michigan Community College will assist veterans
Apr 16, 2015 | Midland Daily News

Veterans at Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) will have access to a new program launched by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency and the Michigan College Access Network.

The program, Michigan Veteran Education Initiative, places a veteran resource representative on college campuses throughout the state to help provide one-on-one support and help with the transition from soldier to student.

Veteran representatives will be present on 14 college campuses in Michigan. Christopher Stanton will serve as the representative at both MMCC and Kirtland Community College.

“I have had the pleasure of working with our student veteran population when I was a part of Student Veterans of America at Central Michigan University,” Stanton said. “My new role on campus as the veteran resource representative will allow me to help connect veterans and their families to any of the benefits they are entitled to receive.”

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Director Jeff Barnes said that about 40,000 veterans will leave service and head to Michigan in the next five years, and they’ll look for education and job opportunities in the state.

“We want to attract and retain the military’s top talent, and having these representatives available to these transitioning veterans sends the message that Michigan is committed to seeing veterans thrive as they pursue their dreams,” Barnes said.

Veterans interested in pursuing college can contact Stanton by calling (989) 773-6622 ext. 147 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
