DIRECTOR OF POLICY

Justin Monk, BS

B.S., Appalachian State University

B.A., Wake Forest University

As the Director of Policy for Student Veterans of America (SVA), Justin advocates on behalf of student veterans, military-connected students, and their families to empower them to, through, and beyond higher education. Since joining the team in early 2019, his portfolio has focused on veterans’ affairs issues and he has helped the Government Affairs department push for increased protections for student veterans and the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

He has testified in front of and authored several statements for the record for Congress advocating for proactive and common-sense solutions to improve student outcomes. Justin holds degrees from Wake Forest University and Appalachian State University.

Justin comes from a long line of veterans across all major branches of service. His father was an Army Airborne Combat Medic at Fort Bragg, one grandfather a former Marine, the other a veteran of the Air Force, and his great-grandfathers were in the Army and Navy. He also has a sibling that recently left the Coast Guard. Outside of work, he studies Korean and is always looking for another good pick-up basketball run.
