User experience (UX) design is the process of shaping how people interact with technology and products in their everyday lives. It goes beyond simply making something look good, it’s about creating experiences that are intuitive, accessible, and enjoyable to use. UX designers work on mobile apps, websites, smartwatches, and even physical products, focusing on how information is organized, how interactions flow, and how users feel during the process. At its core, UX design combines creativity, research, and problem-solving to make technology more human-centered.
The program teaches industry-standard design tools like Figma and Adobe XD, along with spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation applications to support your projects. As you move through the courses, you’ll also build a professional portfolio on the platform of your choice to showcase your UX design work and demonstrate your skills to employers.
UX designers develop a wide range of skills to make user interactions with websites, mobile apps, and physical products more usable, equitable, enjoyable, and effective. They learn to empathize with users by understanding their needs and pain points, and use tools like empathy maps, personas, user stories, and journey maps to guide their work. Designers also craft problem statements to define challenges clearly, brainstorm creative solutions, and translate those ideas into wireframes and prototypes. Along the way, they conduct UX research, test their designs, and refine prototypes to ensure the final product delivers a seamless and meaningful user experience.
Those planning to attend a degree program can utilize ACE®️ recommendations, the industry standard for translating workplace learning to college credit. Learners can earn a recommendation of 10 college credits for completing the UX Design Certificate, the equivalent of 3-4 college courses at the bachelor’s degree level. This aims to help open up additional pathways to learners who are interested in higher education, and prepare them for entry-level jobs.
To share proof of completion with schools, certificate graduates will receive an email prompting them to claim their Credly badge, which contains the ACE®️ credit recommendation. Once claimed, they will receive a competency-based transcript that signifies the credit recommendation, which can be shared directly with a school from the Credly platform. Please note that the decision to accept specific credit recommendations is up to each institution and is not guaranteed.
