Comcast NBCUniversal and SVA Announce 2021 Scholarship Recipients
As part of their shared commitment to military service members and veterans, Comcast NBCUniversal and Student Veterans of America (SVA) have partnered to award two student veterans with $12,000 scholarships. The scholarships are intended to support those interested in a career in the entertainment industry.
Military service members and veterans have a high propensity for success in higher education. The recipients of this scholarship have been accomplishing their personal and professional goals while also excelling academically.
Meet this year’s recipients of the 2021-2022 the Comcast NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship:
Leon Moore, Army veteran and student at Vassar College, is a cinematography and film/video production and African American/Black studies major. He has a passion for diversity and inclusion and telling the stories of the BIPOC and the LGBTQ communities. Moore aspires to work as a writer and director.
“Although a good novel could capture my attention, there was nothing like going to the movies. Sitting in the dark, with the surround sound and suspending disbelief for a few hours stimulated my young imagination like none other,” Moore said. “I would love to bring more stories to the entertainment field that center LGBT and BIPOC narratives as a writer and possibly as a director.”
Natacia Wright, Army veteran and student at University of Maryland College Park, is a communication studies major, former president of Sigma Chi Etta (SCH) Beta Zeta chapter, and a mother. Her passion for outreach and connectivity has led her to pursue a career as a public relations specialist in the entertainment industry.
“I’ve found this passion, this internal feeling that my place within this world is to be a voice of connectivity, outreach, and education,” Wright said. “I thoroughly enjoy working with others, teaching others, and being a spokesperson.”
