How to Stream Veterans Day Events

Events
November 9, 2020

On November 11, 1918, fighting ceased between the Allied nations and Germany on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. This day became known as Armistice Day. In 1954, Congress amended this day to honor American veterans of all wars, and the day became known as Veterans Day.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, many Veterans Day commemorations have been adapted to allow for live streaming so you can participate from home.

National Veterans Day Observance

The U.S. Army Military District of Washington will conduct a Presidential Uniformed Services Full Honor Wreath-Laying Ceremony.  The Honorable Robert Wilkie, Secretary for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in recognition and commemoration of the Veterans who have served in the U.S. Uniformed Services. The ceremony will be hosted by Maj. Gen. Omar J. Jones, commanding general, Joint Task Force – National Capital Region and U.S. Army Military District of Washington.

Ceremonial activities at Arlington National Cemetery will be live streamed at 11 a.m. ET, Wednesday, November 11.

New York City Veterans Day Commemoration

SVA National President and CEO Jared Lyon has been named Grand Marshal of the 2020 New York City Veterans Day Commemoration on Wednesday, November 11. A motorized convoy of 120 vehicles will muster and roll down a portion of the traditional parade route.

WABC-TV 7 will broadcast and live stream a special Veterans Day show on November 11 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. ET from their studios and from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

National Museum of the U.S. Army Grand Opening

A virtual ceremony to celebrate this grand opening will be held November 11, at 2:00 p.m. ET. The Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Sergeant Major of the Army will participate in the ceremony, and it will be live streamed.

Several national level organizations are hosting 2020 Veterans Day virtual events due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. See the full list compiled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
