Introducing Student Veterans of America’s National Academic Advising Center
WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 16, 2024) – Student Veterans of America (SVA) and RTX, recently partnered to launch the National Academic Advising Center during the 16th Annual Nation Conference (NatCon) in Nashville, Tennessee. The National Academic Advising Center, one of SVA’s newer resources, is part of the SVA Success Hub which serves as a comprehensive one-stop source for information, guidance, and coaching for academic and career success.
Thanks to our partners at RTX, the National Academic Advising Center is staffed by our SVA Success Coaches who come with equipped years of expertise in higher education, more specifically, with years of expertise in supporting veterans, their families, and supporters in higher education. Our Success Coaches are essential for supporting students in their academic and career journeys. With the addition of the National Academic Advising Center, SVA and partners at RTX continues to accomplish the mission and vision to act as a catalyst for student veteran success, providing resources and support to, through, and beyond higher education.
What is the National Academic Advising Center?
The National Academic Advising Center provides specialized and personalized academic coaching, career and education exploration tools, resources and support to transitioning service members, veterans, and their families. Find your path and maximize your education benefits with early guidance. Leverage APEX – SVA’s Academic+Career Pathway Explorer to transform your experiences into skills and align them to potential career pathways and occupations. Explore relevant academic and non-academic programs that will prepare you for your desired career. Create a profile and self-assess your interests, military and civilian work history to receive personalized recommendations of potential paths based on what makes you unique. Get inspired by other student veterans’ success stories and connect with them for mentoring opportunities.
The National Academic Advising Center provides specialized advising and individualized academic and career coaching to service members, veterans, and their families at key intervention points starting before they even transition out of the military. You will be able to talk one-on-one with a Success Coach to discuss topics of higher education, understanding your APEX pathways and assessment results, and anything else related to your higher education journey and beyond.
How do I get started?
Once you create your MySVA portal account and fill out your profile information, all of the National Academic Advising Center services and resources will be available to you. From there, you can utilize APEX, What Can I Do With This Major?, assessments, search degree programs and schools, and schedule sessions to talk with an SVA Success Coach!
What is a Student Veterans of America Success Coach?
Our Success Coaches are experienced in advising and coaching service members, veterans and their families, and caregivers in all areas of academics and career exploration. Scheduling an appointment with your Success Coach can be done through your MySVA portal and you’ll be able to select the day and time that works best for you. Meet with a Success Coach to help guide you through your path to higher education and beyond and empower you to make informed decisions on your options.
