Student Veterans of America Applications Open for 2026–2027 VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 10, 2026) — Student Veterans of America (SVA), in partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship. The annual fellowship gives student veterans the opportunity to develop advocacy skills, engage with policymakers, and represent the interests of veterans and military-affiliated communities on Capitol Hill.
The 2026-2027 Legislative Fellowship runs from October 2026 through March 2027 and is designed to help selected fellows build their understanding of federal policy, strengthen their leadership skills, and advocate for issues affecting student veterans and the broader veteran community.
Each year, the VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship selects a cohort of student veterans to research, develop, and advocate for policy priorities that support those who have served. Fellows collaborate with SVA and VFW leaders, participate in advocacy activities, and gain firsthand experience in government relations and public policy.
.
Eligible applicants must be current or eligible members of the VFW and enrolled at an accredited college or university during the fellowship. Applicants are asked to submit required documentation, including proof of enrollment and military service, along with written and video materials outlining their interest in advocacy and the veteran community.
Applications are due by Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Interested student veterans can learn more and apply at: https://studentveterans.org/programs-events/vfw-sva-legislative-fellowship/
Since its launch in 2014, the VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship has helped student veterans build advocacy experience, strengthen civic leadership, and contribute to policy conversations that affect veterans, service members, families, and survivors. Past fellows have gone on to lead in public service, nonprofit advocacy, higher education, and the veteran services space.
